The Kurillian Table · Chapter 5 · Tyrmire
The Tiressian Empire
Order, Discipline, and the Strength of Structure
The Tiressian Empire stands as Tyrmire’s largest and most disciplined political entity — a vast river-born civilisation where law, hierarchy, and military service define national identity. From the capital’s towering flood-fortresses to the endless irrigation networks feeding its agricultural heartland, Tiressia is a nation built on the conviction that strength comes from structure. Every citizen has a role. Every institution has a purpose. Every recipe has a Standard.
Tiressian cuisine reflects this philosophy entirely. Recipes are standardised across the empire — a legionnaire in the eastern provinces eats the same rations as one in the west. Meals follow predictable patterns. Portions are measured precisely. Nothing is wasted. Yet within this regimentation exists genuine quality and real pride. A well-made legion stew or perfectly risen loaf represents excellence within constraints — mastery of fundamentals rather than flashy innovation. To Tiressians, this is not a limitation. It is the point.
“Order is strength. Strength is destiny. A meal that can feed a legion on campaign is more valued than one that impresses at a noble banquet.”

Recipes in This Chapter
Military Campaigns · Iron Legions
Iron Legion Field Rations
Centuries of refinement — hardtack, preserved meat, dried beans, and energy balls. Standardised empire-wide. Every legionnaire carries the same pack, knows what they will eat, and when. The predictability itself provides comfort during chaos.
Makes 12 packs · Prep 30 min · Cook 1.5 hrs + drying
Daily Sustenance · Imperial Standard
Imperial Standard Wheat Bread
One recipe. One method. One empire. Established two centuries ago, taught in every civic school, baked the same way from the eastern river deltas to the western borderlands. Three cuts on the top. Three founding provinces. Every Tiressian knows this bread by heart.
Makes 2 large loaves · Prep 20 min + 2 hrs · Cook 35–40 min
Day of Oaths · Civic Festival
Day of Oaths Ceremonial Lentil Soup
Simple and communal — made in civic centres by citizens of all ranks working side by side. On the day dedicated to renewed commitment, the meal cannot distract. Everyone eats the same soup. The emperor and the newest conscript eat from the same batch.
Serves 12–15 · Prep 15 min · Cook 45 min
Engineering Corps · Guild Meals
Aqueduct Engineer’s Fortifying Stew
The perpetual pot — never fully emptied for the duration of a project, sometimes months. Meat, barley, potatoes, root vegetables. The stew is specifically designed to improve over 2–3 days and to be thick enough that a spoon stands up in it. Watery stew is considered shameful.
Serves 8–10 · Prep 25 min · Cook 2.5 hrs
Military Triumphs · Senate Banquet
Senate Victory Roasted Fowl
Brined, herb-rubbed, roasted at exact temperature, carved by a designated provisioner trained in ceremonial cuts. Seating by rank. First slice to the commanding general. No one eats until the highest officer takes the first bite. Each slice must be uniform.
Serves 6–8 · Prep 20 min + brine · Cook 1.5 hrs
The Founding Flood · Family Festival
Founding Flood Honeyed River Bream
The only Tiressian dish with no standardised recipe — intentionally left to family tradition. Each household’s version carries the herbs and honey of their particular province. The first fish of the day is offered back to the water before the meal begins. The rivers gave everything.
Serves 4 · Prep 15 min · Cook 25–30 min
Standard-Bearer Rites · Ceremonial Unit
Standard-Bearer’s Ceremonial Spiced Wine
Drunk in silence by the sacred unit that defends the imperial banners, before any significant campaign departure or banner consecration. Equal portions. Cups raised together. No toast spoken. The empire’s only ceremonial wine consumed without words.
Serves 6–8 · Prep 5 min · Cook 20 min + steeping
Legion’s Triumph · Public Festival
Legion’s Triumph Victory Pie
Thousands of these pies, made simultaneously in civic centres across the entire empire, served at the exact same hour. The coordination requires the Aether network the Engineering Corps maintains specifically for this purpose. One slice goes to the door, for those who cannot eat it.
Serves 8 · Prep 45 min · Cook 2.5 hrs total
The nation behind the recipes
They see themselves as the adults in the room — responsible, burdened, and righteous.
The Tiressian Empire’s strength lies not in flair but in organisation, endurance, and inevitability. Its roads work. Its aqueducts hold. Its bread is the same in every province. This is not an accident.
