Scaelia

The Theocracy of Shattered Purity  ·  Where devotion fills the space left by a broken god.

Overview

Scaelia is a theocratic nation devoted to the Fourteenfold Gods — and defined by the catastrophic fact that its divine relationship was fractured long ago and has never fully healed. What remains is a civilization shaped by devout grief, harsh divine law, and the desperate conviction that if only the people are pure enough, disciplined enough, faithful enough, the gods will return their favor.

Scaelian missionaries are true believers — they genuinely think they are saving souls. This makes them both sympathetic and dangerous. They do not cynically manipulate. They suffer, and in their suffering they become inflexible, righteous, and willing to cause harm in the name of what they are certain is good.

Government & Society

Scaelia is governed by a theocratic hierarchy in which religious law supersedes civil authority. Priests, inquisitors, and ecclesiastical councils form the administrative core. Drakhar and Gorrak are formally unwelcome within Scaelian borders. Umbrinel are treated as inherently suspect. Animus-blooded individuals are watched with simultaneous fear and awe.

Scaelian culture emphasizes duty, hierarchy, and divine order above all things. Deviation from religious doctrine — even theological innovation — is treated as a threat to the collective purity that must be maintained. Neighboring nations joke that Scaelia has too many priests and not enough gods. The Scaelians would not find this amusing.

Foreign Relations & Current Tensions

Scaelia’s primary ideological conflict is with Edhegoth, whose spiritual independence is a standing offense to Scaelian religious authority. Scaelia funds conversion movements inside Edhegoth, sends missionaries to border settlements, and offers economic incentives for communities willing to adopt Fourteenfold worship. The Cold War of faith between these two nations simmers without ever quite igniting.

Scaelia maintains cautious diplomatic relations with Avaria and Etrium, viewing both as decadent but strategically necessary. Galaronel is regarded with deep unease — its surface civility is seductive, and Scaelian doctrine has never developed adequate defenses against the empire’s subtle corruption. Several Scaelian border dioceses have reported unusual pressure in recent years.

Scaelia is one of fourteen nations across three continents.
