Refinement is our shield. Precision is our blade.
Overview
Castaria is a compact, aristocratic kingdom of vineyard hills, fortified cliff-towns, coastal estates, and dueling courts. Despite its small size, its cultural influence far exceeds its borders — Castarian noble etiquette, fencing traditions, and artistry ripple across all of Tyrmire. The kingdom is also a sanctuary for displaced Lethari noble lines, giving it an elven undercurrent of melancholy, grace, and spiritual resilience that sets it apart from its neighbours.
Beneath its polished civility lies a razor’s edge: old-guard loyalists aligned with Avaria sit uneasily alongside families quietly seeking Galaronel’s patronage. Castaria walks this line with practiced elegance. Its value to both great powers depends on remaining ambiguous.
Society & Structure
Castarian society is organized around three pillars: the High Houses, ancient bloodlines guarding centuries-old vineyards and hill fortresses; the Sword Houses, families whose dueling academies have trained Tyrmire’s finest fencers for generations; and the Trade Clans, wealthy guilds controlling wine export, fine textiles, and coastal shipping.
Though the hierarchy appears rigid, exceptional talent rises rapidly regardless of birth. Even commoners receive basic training in etiquette and dueling form — in Castaria, how you carry yourself is a matter of civic identity. They walk, it is said, like dancers whose steps might become sword strokes at any moment.
Traditions, Magic & Military
Castarian magic treats the arcane as art — something to be expressed with elegance rather than brute force. Veil, Glyph, and Radiance Schools dominate. Arcane dueling — spell combined with blade — is considered the pinnacle of mastery. Spellcasters here are expected to understand aesthetics as much as technique.
Key traditions include the Sword-Blossom Tourney, where duelists compete for beauty of form as much as victory; the Vintner’s Moon Festival, a multi-day harvest celebration; and the Night of Echoes, a solemn event where Lethari enclaves and Castarian houses mourn shared losses and lost homelands together. Military traditions center on Dueling Circles, House Swordmasters, and Coastal Wardens defending the sea cliffs.
