The Feast of Firanor

The Kurillian Table  ·  Chapter 3  ·  Tyrmire

The Firanoran Confederation

Storm, Steel, and Steadfast Bonds

The Firanoran Confederation is a vast alliance of plains-dominant clans, storm-tempered tribes, and semi-nomadic city-states bound together through honour pacts, shared rites, and centuries of tradition. Its lands stretch across sweeping grasslands, rolling steppe, thunder-lashed mesas, and fertile river corridors. Every Firan grows up understanding three things: the storm comes for all, one cannot outrun the horizon, and strength is something you earn — not something you wield over others.

Firanoran cuisine reflects this warrior society’s values — bold flavours, generous portions, communal serving styles, and an emphasis on food that provides genuine sustenance. There is no pretence here, no hidden meanings in plating. A meal either strengthens you for what lies ahead or it fails its purpose. The Confederation is both rugged and refined: a warrior society that values poetry, a plains culture that reveres the land, and a political alliance built on shared purpose rather than centralised power.

“The sound of searing meat and the smell of char are considered as important to the feast as the taste. They announce abundance and celebrate survival through another year.”

Recipes in This Chapter

Great Sky-Gathering  ·  Opening Feast

Storm-Charred Steak with Herb Crust

The centrepiece of the opening night feast — seared over storm-heat until the crust shatters, finished in the final minute with rosemary and garlic butter. Cooked in full view of every clan. Overcook it and you shame your clan.

Serves 4  ·  Prep 15 min + 1 hr rest  ·  Cook 10–12 min

Memorial Feast  ·  Hearth Unbroken

Hearth Unbroken Barley Stew

Made in massive pots that simmer for hours during the mourning-turned-celebration feast for Firan fallen. Beef, barley, root vegetables, greens. As long as the fire burns and people gather to eat, those who have passed are not truly gone.

Serves 10–12  ·  Prep 20 min  ·  Cook 2.5 hrs

Coming-of-Age  ·  The Plainsrun

Plainsrun Energy Flatbread

The sole sustenance for young Firan during the endurance trial. Whole wheat, oats, flaxseed, nut butter, honey, dried fruit. Carried in leather pouches against the body for days. When the trial is done, the remaining pieces are given forward to younger children.

Communal Feast  ·  Sky-Gathering

Sky-Gathering Honey-Glazed Root Vegetables

The feast requires balance. These honey-glazed roots appear alongside every major meat course — sweetness against char, colour against brown, tender against crisp. Root vegetables grow beneath the surface, anchored even when storms rage above.

Serves 8–10  ·  Prep 20 min  ·  Cook 45 min

Sacred Rites  ·  Stormcalling

Storm Rider’s Spiced Mead

Warmed, spiced with cinnamon, clove, ginger, and cardamom, and passed in a single communal horn. You drink from the same vessel as the clan chieftain and the newest member. The last person to drink refills it for the next round.

Serves 8–10  ·  Prep 10 min  ·  Cook 30 min + steeping

Kargir Duel Tradition  ·  Settlement Feast

Kargir Settlement Braised Bison

After a ritual duel resolves a dispute, the winner must prepare and share a meal with the person they defeated. A binding obligation — generous, made by the winner’s own hands. The duel decides the dispute. The meal decides whether it is finished.

Serves 6–8  ·  Prep 30 min  ·  Cook 3.5–4 hrs

War-Singer Companies  ·  Pre-Performance Meal

War-Singer’s Yogurt Flatbread

Soft, warm, yogurt-risen, herbed with thyme and rosemary. Eaten in silence one hour before the battle chant begins. The voice is a weapon — feed it accordingly. Outside the ritual, the most common bread in the Confederation.

Makes 6–8  ·  Prep 10 min + 20 min rest  ·  Cook 15 min

Stormcalling Rites  ·  Pre-Campaign Feast

Stormcalling Night Smoked Ribs

Whole racks onto low smoke at dusk as the Stormcalling Rites begin. They require almost no attention through the night. They come off at dawn when the ceremony concludes and the warriors need to eat before they ride. The smoke runs through the entire rite.
