Etrium

The world comes to our harbors, and we send it back changed.

Overview

Etrium is Tyrmire’s great coastal crossroads — a glittering maritime republic of merchant princes, diplomat families, harbormasters, and naval guilds. Nestled between Avaria, Castaria, and the Estwarin Sea, it has become the place where cultures mix freely, where trade routes converge, and where political influence flows as readily as silver. Etrium survives not through armies, but through treaties, trade agreements, neutrality pacts, expert negotiation, and maritime leverage.

If Avaria is refinement and Tiressia is discipline, Etrium is connection. Its citizens believe in diplomacy as both a science and an art. Most speak at least two languages. Their founding motto — Trade Above All — is not cynicism but conviction: trade requires trust, trust requires peace, and peace requires people willing to do the hard work of finding common ground.

Government & Society

Etrium is governed by the Triarch Council, three ruling families elected by guilds and trade houses. Below them: Mariner Guilds controlling ports and shipping lanes; Diplomatic Houses trained in law, linguistics, and negotiation; and Merchant Consortia of multi-ancestry trade alliances. Society is unequal in wealth but socially flexible — talent rises quickly here.

Etrium is the single most diverse city-state in Tyrmire. Its population includes Humans, Lyfan, Kitsunari, Hóngmao, Suryani, Lethari, Dvarin, and rare Drakhar mercenaries. Half-Gorrak appear as sailors, caravan guards, and port enforcers. This diversity is a feature, not a byproduct — Etrium actively cultivates cultural fluency as a strategic advantage.

Traditions, Magic & Military

Etrium is magic tolerant and magic practical. Aether, Glyph, and Radiance Schools dominate, primarily for contracts, navigation, and architecture. Mage-Notaries authenticate magical agreements. Any spell that influences minds must be registered. Veil tampering is harshly punished. Magic, here, is another tool — useful, respected, and always documented.

Etrium defends itself through alliances, contracts, and naval superiority rather than legions. The Harbormaster Guard specializes in naval boarding and urban defense. The Tidewardens combine weather-warding with anti-piracy operations. Key festivals include the Harbormarch opening trading season; the Silver Contract Festival, where trade houses renew alliances in public ceremony; and Lanternmas on the Estwarin, honoring travelers lost at sea.
