Edhegoth

Where the mountains meet the sky, and gryphons guard the realm.

Overview

Edhegoth is a mountainous, heavily forested kingdom defined by towering pines, sheer ridges, ancient stone citadels, and the legendary gryphon cavalry that patrols its skies. Once underestimated by its imperial neighbours, Edhegoth has survived three separate invasions from Galaronel — repelling each through mastery of mountainous terrain, aerial dominance, Dvarin-engineered fortresses, and a cultural stubbornness bordering on defiance.

Edhegoth is not a zealot state. It is a realm of stubborn independence, shaped by nature, beasts, and a spiritualism that rejects the divine politics dominating other Embiadi nations. Its people believe the gods abandoned Embiad long ago — and have built their strength accordingly, without waiting for divine favour.

Society & Structure

Edhegoth organizes around five social pillars: the Sky-Lords (noble families bonded to gryphon lines, commanding aerial warfare and border patrol); the Ridge-Clans (mountain hunters, loggers, and woodsfolk who know the terrain better than any map); the Dvarin Citadel-Kin (Dvarin families integrated over generations, responsible for Edhegoth’s near-impregnable fortresses); the Mountain Monasteries (hermitic spiritual orders teaching endurance rather than devotion); and the Hearthfolk (common villagers with deep connections to the land’s beasts and forests).

Its capital, Skyhearth, is the only major city in Edhegoth — a mountain stronghold built across multiple elevation tiers, with the Great Aeries housing nearly 180 bonded gryphons at any given time. The Eternal Flame in Skyhearth has burned for exactly 380 years — the same age as the kingdom itself.

Traditions, Magic & Military

The Binding of Wings — the ritual linking a rider to their gryphon for life — is Edhegoth’s most sacred tradition, performed in the Windsong Hollow of the Great Aeries. The Forest Vigil sends individuals alone into the deep woods to listen for the land’s voice. The Sky-Return honors fallen riders and gryphons with feathers and wind-chimes hung along ridgelines.

Magic in Edhegoth is personal, instinctive, and tied to nature rather than institution. Primal, Storm, Spirit, and Dream schools dominate. Radiance is associated with Galaronel’s corrupted aesthetics and is widely distrusted. Military strength rests on three pillars: the Gryphon Cavalry (Sky-Lances) armed with wind-bows and storm-woven cloaks; the Ridge-Clan Rangers expert in mountain guerrilla warfare; and the Dvarin-Forged Citadels — nearly impossible to breach.

Three failed invasions have created a generational grudge. Galaronel views Edhegoth as ‘mountain barbarians.’ They are wrong. And this arrogance makes them underestimate Edhegoth every time.
